Gardening: Stage 1

Gardening: Stage 1
(Linnea, Amelie & Signe)

After spending an afternoon with a friend whose parents garden SERIOUSLY... Linnea & Signe were really inspired. As we arrived home and were walking past a pot of dirt (hey - thats just how I roll, black thumb and all) and stopped. This is the conversation that followed:
Linnea: Mommy, my apple trees not growing.
Me: Linnea, that's because thats a stick not an apple tree.
Linnea & Signe: No, Mommy. That's an apple tree! (said like, duh mom!)

Anyways, I realized then and there my children needed a lesson in how things grow. So we went out and bought window boxes, dirt, seeds and a watering can. With the help of said gardening friend, we got to work. Hit up the garden store. Picked out zinnias and sunflowers seeds, and dirt. (Also will be planting a tomato plant, just haven't gotten farther than filling the container with dirt!) Can I just say - who buys dirt?? Seemed really dumb to me.

Stage 1: Linnea, Signe and their buddy Amelie got to work scooping dirt into the window boxes. It was a fun experience. The three of them were SO serious! Next we planted the zinnias in the window boxes, while planting just a couple sunflower seeds directly in the 'free' dirt of our backyard. Followed by watering. Alright. It's been just over 24 hours. Want to guess how many times L & S have already checked? I'm guessing we'll have many discussions on SLOW growing over the next week or so!

So here's STAGE 1 - and we look forward to STAGE 2! We'll keep you posted!
